The Adventure

Tucked into the foothills outside of Nevada City, California, the ranch began with a simple idea: travel should feel personal, memorable, and connected to the land.

In 2019, while still working as a high school English teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area, I bought a small 1973 vintage Field and Stream trailer and started traveling the country whenever I could. Along the way, I discovered that the places I remembered most were never the biggest resorts or busiest destinations. They were the unexpected stays — mornings on an ostrich farm, evenings at wineries, quiet nights beside alpacas, and hidden corners of working ranches and golf courses. Those experiences changed the way I thought about travel.

After retiring and selling my home in the Bay Area, I purchased 94 acres outside of Nevada City to begin building something inspired by those journeys. What started as a dream for a small glamping retreat has grown into a larger vision — a place where people can slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the character of the Sierra foothills in a meaningful way.

We are starting small and intentionally, creating comfortable stays surrounded by open space, fresh air, and quiet nights under the stars. But the vision continues to grow, with plans for expanded amenities, gathering spaces, and experiences rooted in the landscape and culture of the region.

Located right off Highway 49 on the way to Downieville, the property offers easy access to hiking, mountain biking, rivers, forests, and the rich history and culture of Gold Country. Whether you come for adventure, relaxation, or simply a chance to unplug, this is meant to be more than a place to stay. It’s a place to experience Northern California differently — a little slower, a little closer to nature, and a lot more memorable.
